The following email was forwarded to me. It originates from Lisa C. Moore:
i heard from my aunt last night that my cousin Denise made it out of New Orleans; she’s at her brother’s in Baton Rouge. from what she told me: her mother, a licensed practical nurse, was called in to work on Sunday night at Memorial Hospital (historically known as Baptist Hospital to those of us from N.O.). Denise decided to stay with her mother, her niece and grandniece (who is 2 years old); she figured they’d be safe at the hospital. they went to Baptist, and had to wait hours to be assigned a room to sleep in; after they were finally assigned a room,two white nurses suddenly arrived after the cut-off time (time to be assigned a room), and Denise and her family were booted out; their room was given up to the new nurses. Denise was furious, and rather than stay at Baptist, decided to walk home (several blocks away )to ride out the storm at her mother’s apartment. her mother stayed at the hospital.
she described it as the scariest time in her life. 3 of the rooms in the apartment (there are only 4) caved in. ceilings caved in, walls caved in. she huddled under a mattress in the hall. she thought she would die from either the storm or a heart attack. after the storm passed, she went back to Baptist to seek shelter (this was Monday). it was also scary at Baptist; the electricity was out, they were running on generators, there was no air conditioning. Tuesday the levees broke, and water began rising. they moved patients upstairs, saw boats pass by on what used to be streets. they were told that they would be evacuated, that buses were coming. then they were told they would have to walk to the nearest intersection, Napoleon and S. Claiborne, to await the buses. they waded out in hip-deep water, only to stand at the intersection, on the neutral ground (what y’all call the median) for 3 1/2 hours. the buses came and took them to the Ernest Morial Convention Center. (yes, the convention center you’ve all seen on TV.)
Denise said she thought she was in hell. they were there for 2 days, with no water, no food. no shelter. Denise, her mother (63 years old), her niece (21 years old), and 2-year-old grandniece. when they arrived, there were already thousands of people there. they were told that buses were coming. police drove by, windows rolled up, thumbs up signs. national guard trucks rolled by, completely empty, soldiers with guns cocked and aimed at them. nobody stopped to drop off water. a helicopter dropped a load of water, but all the bottles exploded on impact due to the height of the helicopter.
the first day (Wednesday) 4 people died next to her. the second day (Thursday) 6 people died next to her. Denise told me the people around her all thought they had been sent there to die. again, nobody stopped. the only buses that came were full; they dropped off more and more people, but nobody was being picked up and taken away. they found out that those being dropped off had been rescued from rooftops and attics; they got off the buses delirious from lack of water and food. completely dehydrated. the crowd tried to keep them all in one area; Denise said the new arrivals had mostly lost their minds. they had gone crazy.
inside the convention center, the place was one huge bathroom. in order to shit, you had to stand in other people’s shit. the floors were black and slick with shit. most people stayed outside because the smell was so bad. but outside wasn’t much better: between the heat, the humidity, the lack of water, the old and very young dying from dehydration… and there was no place to lay down, not even room on the sidewalk. they slept outside Wednesday night, under an overpass.
Denise said yes, there were young men with guns there.but they organized the crowd. they went to Canal Street and “looted,” and brought back food and water for the old people and the babies, because nobody had eaten in days. when the police rolled down windows and yelled out “the buses are coming,” the young men with guns organized the crowd in order: old people in front, women and children next, men in the back. just so that when the buses came, there would be priorities of who got out first.
Denise said the fights she saw between the young men with guns were fist fights. she saw them put their guns down and fight rather than shoot up the crowd. but she said that there were a handful of people shot in the convention center; their bodies were left inside, along with other dead babies and old people.
Denise said the people thought there were being sent there to die. lots of people being dropped off, nobody being picked up. cops passing by, speeding off. national guard rolling by with guns aimed at them. and yes, a few men shot at the police, because at a certain point all the people thought the cops were coming to hurt them, to kill them all. she saw a young man who had stolen a car speed past, cops in pursuit; he crashed the car, got out and ran, and the cops shot him in the back. in front of the whole crowd. she saw many groups of people decide that they were going to walk across the bridge to the west bank, and those same groups would return, saying that they were met at the top of the bridge by armed police ordering them to turn around, that they weren’t allowed to leave.
so they all believed they were sent there to die.
Denise’s niece found a pay phone, and kept trying to call her mother’s boyfriend in Baton Rouge, and finally got through and told him where they were. the boyfriend, and Denise’s brother, drove down from Baton Rouge and came and got them. they had to bribe a few cops, and talk a few into letting them into the city (“come on, man, my 2-year-old niece is at the Convention Center!”), then they took back roads to get to them.
after arriving at my other cousin’s apartment in Baton Rouge, they saw the images on TV, and couldn’t believe how the media was portraying the people of New Orleans. she kept repeating to me on the phone last night: make sure you tell everybody that they left us there to die. nobody came. those young men with guns were protecting us. if it wasn’t for them, we wouldn’t have had the little water and food they had found.

As United States Citizens we have celebrated life and liberty and the pursuit of happiness for two hundred and twenty nine years. As Hurricane Katrina blew towards our most precious port (the fifth largest in the world), our government officials failed to execute the necessary arrangements to evacuate those that couldn’t afford to adhere to the mandatory evacuation that was declared on 11 AM on Sunday August 28th 2005.New Orleans is home to 1.3 million people as of the Census Bureau in 2003. The news reports only approximately 500,000 people live in New Orleans. Meaning our nation is witnessing genocide on its own soil. The news calls them refugees, but that is a demeaning and hopeless term: they are survivors.
Louisiana has been asking to get the levees fixed since Hurricane Betsy of 1965. Since she struck New Orleans, we’ve known our vulnerability. Budgets established for Louisiana’s levees have taken cuts as steep as 80% over the last three years to be reinvested to an 8 billion dollar budget annually for the Iraqi War. Mayor Nagin directed people to the Superdome, where Gov. Kathleen Blanco describes it as “an experiment” in regards to providing temporary shelter for survivors. There is a picture floating on Yahoo of buses lined up, but no mobilization. Mayor Dupree of Hattisburg called in to CNN(Sept 1st) explaining that there were 50 National Guard trucks sitting with water and ice outside camp Shelby but not moving because FEMA would not release them. If you are poor, transportation is a luxury. If we can mobilize and feed those all the way across seas in places such as Afghanistan and Kosovo, we can rescue our American civilians in one our most important cities. We saw this coming,

Dear Mr. President:
Under the provisions of Section 501 (a) of the Robert T. Stafford Disaster Relief and Emergency Assistance Act, 42 U.S.C. §§ 5121-5206 (Stafford Act), and implemented by 44 CFR § 206.35, I request that you declare an emergency for the State of Louisiana due to Hurricane Katrina for the time period beginning August 26, 2005, and continuing. The affected areas are all the southeastern parishes including the New Orleans Metropolitan area and the mid state Interstate I-49 corridor and northern parishes along the I-20 corridor that are accepting the thousands of citizens evacuating from the areas expecting to be flooded as a result of Hurricane Katrina.
In response to the situation I have taken appropriate action under State law and directed the execution of the State Emergency Plan on August 26, 2005 in accordance with Section 501 (a) of the Stafford Act. A State of Emergency has been issued for the State in order to support the evacuations of the coastal areas in accordance with our State Evacuation Plan and the remainder of the state to support the State Special Needs and Sheltering Plan.
Pursuant to 44 CFR § 206.35, I have determined that this incident is of such severity and magnitude that effective response is beyond the capabilities of the State and affected local governments, and that supplementary Federal assistance is necessary to save lives, protect property, public health, and safety, or to lessen or avert the threat of a disaster. I am specifically requesting emergency protective measures, direct Federal Assistance, Individual and Household Program (IHP) assistance, Special Needs Program assistance, and debris removal.
Preliminary estimates of the types and amount of emergency assistance needed under the Stafford Act, and emergency assistance from certain Federal agencies under other statutory authorities are tabulated in Enclosure A.
The following information is furnished on the nature and amount of State and local resources that have been or will be used to alleviate the conditions of this emergency:
• Department of Social Services (DSS): Opening (3) Special Need Shelters (SNS) and establishing (3) on Standby.
• Department of Health and Hospitals (DHH): Opening (3) Shelters and establishing (3) on Standby.

In accordance with 44 CFR § 206.208, the State of Louisiana agrees that it will, with respect to Direct Federal assistance:
1. Provide without cost to the United States all lands, easement, and rights-of-ways necessary to accomplish the approved work.
2. Hold and save the United States free from damages due to the requested work, and shall indemnify the Federal Government against any claims arising from such work;
3. Provide reimbursement to FEMA for the non-Federal share of the cost of such work in accordance with the provisions of the FEMA-State Agreement; and
4. Assist the performing Federal agency in all support and local jurisdictional matters.
In addition, I anticipate the need for debris removal, which poses an immediate threat to lives, public health, and safety.
Pursuant to Sections 502 and 407 of the Stafford Act, 42 U.S.C. §§ 5192 & 5173, the State agrees to indemnify and hold harmless the United States of America for any claims arising from the removal of debris or wreckage for this disaster. The State agrees that debris removal from public and private property will not occur until the landowner signs an unconditional authorization for the removal of debris.
I have designated Mr. Art Jones as the State Coordinating Officer for this request. He will work with the Federal Emergency Management Agency in damage assessments and may provide further information or justification on my behalf.

I have been listening to the radio, scouring more than the AP Newspaper releases (and reading hundreds of blogs), which are the original forms of communication to the American people. People aren’t looting televisions to watch them, if they are (show me the footage) it’s got to be for money, suggesting that they would even be able to transport something as large as an expensive TV in water up to their shoulders as the dead, bloated bodies of neighbors go floating past. Believe, they are lucky enough to have a dry radio and a battery!
The television(or rather the FCC) is given the right to censor voices and images that seek it as a conduit to communicate the exact nature of the catastrophe that has taken place upon our soil once again. How much outrage was waged against Janet Jackson’s Nipplegate? Has anyone heard a more than a peep about Pat Robertston’s appeal to his Christian Network syndication the 700 Club regarding Venezuelan President Chavez? He publicly announced (a few weeks before this catastrophe) that the U.S. government should “take out Chavez”! He has suggested an assassination to an elected official in another country on televised public broadcast with thousands of viewers. If I recall, “thou shall not murder” and “love your neighbors as thyself” are two important Commandments of his cherished doctrine. When Secretary of Defense, Donald Rumsfeld was queried on his feelings about this indiscretion, he declared in defense that “private citizens can say what they want.” No, we (the FCC or the Administration) would never chastise him; I mean did he expose anything?
I haven’t been able to sleep, the sloth is repulsive. Why not drop inflatable life rafts to assist those stranded atop their roof? Why turn away Rev. Jesse Jackson’s buses’ full of food and water? If you are not part of the solution, you are part of the problem.
Mayor Nagin of New Orleans is part owner of multi-million dollar company, Cox Cable. He has been the only politician with concern and the cajones to call in to public radio to speak candidly about the realities of what is going out there in Louisiana.
This is not a racial thing, this is not an incompetence within our infrastructure (we had the plans since 2001).We must not be so complacent as to only believe the homogenized spins that we are getting from the television news stations. I personally overheard via dial-up internet that I have, a police scanner in New Orleans, LA. The police were denying entry to the Fox News station indefinitely, the officers were communicating within the confines of the station on radio, discussing the truck being outside the perimeters of this “ground zero”. I was in Nevada Sept 1st, some five days later I am seeing the same images and stories here in Florida on the East Coast on the national and local news stations CNN, NBC, CBS, ABC and FOX ?!! I thought continuous coverage really meant something. First, the media (specifically the TV news channels) have not been honest (or allowed enough information), and Mayor Nagin states this publicly on talk radio. The Real World: New OrleansSalon.com has posted the transcript of an interview with New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin on New Orleans radio station WWL-AM, conducted Thursday night (Sept 1st 2005) by WWL correspondent Garland Robinette. Nagin lashed out at the federal and state government’s relief efforts. The full transcript is here:
Mayor C. Ray Nagin: I told (President Bush) we had an incredible
crisis here and that his flying over in Air Force One does not do it
justice. And that I have been all around this city, and I am very frustrated
because we are not able to marshal resources and we’re outmanned in just
about every respect. You know the reason why the looters got out of control?
Because we had most of our resources saving people, thousands of people that
were stuck in attics, man, old ladies. … You pull off the doggone ventilator vent and
you look down there and they’re standing in there in water up to their freaking necks.
And they don’t have a clue what’s going on down here. They flew down here one time
two days after the doggone event was over with TV cameras, AP reporters, all kind of
goddamn — excuse my French everybody in America, but I am pissed.

Nagin: I said, “I need everything.” Now, I will tell you this — and I give
the president some credit on this — he sent one John Wayne dude down here
that can get some stuff done, and his name is [Lt.] Gen. [Russel]Honore.
And he came off the doggone chopper, and he started cussing and people
started moving. And he’s getting some stuff done. They ought to give
that guy — if they don’t want to give it to me, give him full authority to
get the job done, and we can save some people.
WWL: What do you need right now to get control of this situation?
Nagin: I need reinforcements, I need troops, man. I need 500 buses, man. We
ain’t talking about — you know, one of the briefings we had, they were
talking about getting public school bus drivers to come down here and bus
people out here. I’m like, “You got to be kidding me. This is a national
disaster. Get every doggone Greyhound bus line in the country and get their
asses moving to New Orleans.” That’s — they’re thinking small, man. And
this is a major, major, major deal. And I can’t emphasize it enough, man.
This is crazy. I’ve got 15,000 to 20,000 people over at the convention
center. It’s bursting at the seams. The poor people in Plaquemines Parish.
… We don’t have anything, and we’re sharing with our brothers in
Plaquemines Parish. It’s awful down here, man.
WWL: Do you believe that the president is seeing this, holding a news
conference on it but can’t do anything until [Louisiana Gov.] Kathleen
Blanco requested him to do it? And do you know whether or not she has made
that request?
Nagin: I have no idea what they’re doing. But I will tell you this: You
know, God is looking down on all this, and if they are not doing
everything in their power to save people, they are going to pay the price. Because
every day that we delay, people are dying and they’re dying by the hundreds,
I’m willing to bet you. We’re getting reports and calls that are
breaking my heart, from people saying, “I’ve been in my attic. I can’t take it
anymore. The water is up to my neck. I don’t think I can hold out.” And that’s
happening as we speak. You know what really upsets me, Garland? We told
everybody the importance of the 17th Street Canal issue. We said,
“Please, please take care of this. We don’t care what you do. Figure it out.”

WWL: What can we do here?
Nagin: Keep talking about it.
WWL: We’ll do that. What else can we do?
Nagin: Organize people to write letters and make calls to their congressmen,
to the president, to the governor. Flood their doggone offices with requests
to do something. This is ridiculous. I don’t want to see anybody do anymore
goddamn press conferences. Put a moratorium on press conferences. Don’t
do another press conference until the resources are in this city. And then
come down to this city and stand with us when there are military trucks and
troops that we can’t even count. Don’t tell me 40,000 people are coming
here. They’re not here. It’s too doggone late. Now get off your asses and do
something, and let’s fix the biggest goddamn crisis in the history of this country.”
It was only until yesterday (Sept 4th 2005) that a politician finally raised his voice about that lack of preparedness and mobilization within our federal agencies. In cross interview, Mayor Nagin reported that Bush at the least “appreciates frankness in his discussions”.
Why are we refusing help from France, Holland, Russia, Spain, and Venezuela among others? The formal answer is” unsolicited offers could be counter-productive”. The pride is disgusting. Now today (Sept. 5th), the BBC reports Bush finally asking for water trucks and blankets and such.
Micheal Chertoff Secretary of Homeland Security and Director of FEMA was interviewed and when asked if he knew what information the media was being distributed amongst the public he shrugged his shoulders, literally. Now, what the media’s coverage is may not be your first priority, but to respond with “I don’t know”???!!! Well, you ought to at least know that they are reporting the TRUTH right, MR. Chertoff? So, essentially you could respond by saying anything you want (or feel- heaven forbid!), but instead you shrug your shoulders! In Bush’s formal address to his nation he stated that Chertoff will now be promoted to “cabinet level authority”. And Micheal Brown ( Director of Fema) is now in charge of “federal recovery in the field” And is this the same person, because I have found conflicting statements as to who is director of what? Too many cooks in the kitchen, or too few?

As we stand strong with our massive scroll of signatures, the overwhelming support for Roe v. Wade will not be denied.
How did they (PP) foresee the death of Rehnquist??? Again, the above letter was sent to me on Sept. 1st!!!Planned Parenthood is comprised of a major minority group- unwed mothers, girls that have no insurance and women that need a support system. What better way to promote for more electoral/public vote in a state that is strongly Democratic and didn’t vote for you (and your cronies).

Rehnquist was promoted from within just the same way when Nixon was President. That is not the way a democracy works. This is not lack of organization, this is National Negligence! There are perimeters set up and a containment of this catastrophe that look like a mad scientist toying with a Petri dish. Is anyone speaking about the 2 spilled oil rigs and the eight that are rendered disabled? Two hundred officers relinquish their badges? Two commit suicide, or are there more numbers? You bet. Background on the HAARP Project
Project Argus (1958)
Between August and September 1958, the US Navy exploded three fission type nuclear bombs 480 km above the South Atlantic Ocean, in the part of the lower Van Allen Belt closest to the earth’s surface. In addition, two hydrogen bombs were detonated 160 km over Johnston Island in the Pacific. This was called, by the military, “the biggest scientific experiment ever undertaken”. It was designed by the US Department of Defense and the US Atomic Energy Commission, under the code name Project Argus. The purpose appears to be to assess the impact of high altitude nuclear explosions on radio transmission and radar operations because of the electro-magnetic pulse (EMP), and to increase understanding of the geomagnetic field and the behavior of the charged particles in it.
This gigantic experiment created new (inner) magnetic radiation belts encompassing almost the whole earth, and injected sufficient electrons and other energetic particles into the ionosphere to cause world wide effects. The electrons traveled back and forth along magnetic force lines, causing an artificial “aurora” when striking the atmosphere near the North Pole. US Military planed to create a “telecommunications shield” in the ionosphere, reported in 13-20 August 1961, Keesings Historisch Archief (K.H.A.). This shield would be created “in the ionosphere at 3,000 km height, by bringing into orbit 350,000 million copper needles, each 2-4 cm long (total weight 16 kg), forming a belt 10 km thick and 40 km wide, the needles spaced about 100 m apart.” This was designed to replace the ionosphere “because telecommunications are impaired by magnetic storms and solar flares”. The US planned to add to the number of copper needles if the experiment proved to be successful. This plan was strongly opposed by the International Union of Astronomers.
SPS Military Implications (1978)
Early review of the Solar Powered Satellite Project began in around 1978, and I was on the review panel. Although this was proposed as an energy program, it had significant military implications. One of the most significant, first pointed out by Michael J. Ozeroff, was the possibility of developing a satellite borne beam weapon for anti-ballistic missile (ABM) use. The satellites were to be in geosynchronous orbits, each providing an excellent vantage point from which an entire hemisphere can be surveyed continuously. It was speculated that a high energy laser beam could function as a thermal weapon to disable or destroy enemy missiles. There was some discussion of electron weapon beams, through the use of a laser beam to preheat a path for the following electron beam.
The SPS was also described as a psychological and anti-personnel weapon, which could be directed toward an enemy. If the main microwave beam was redirected away from its rectenna, toward enemy personnel, it could use an infrared radiation wavelength (invisible) as an anti-personnel weapon. It might also be possible to transmit high enough energy to ignite combustible materials. Laser beam power relays could be made from the SPS satellite to other satellites or platforms, for example aircraft, for military purposes. One application might be a laser powered turbofan engine which would receive the laser beam directly in its combustion chamber, producing the required high temperature gas for its cruising operation. This would allow unlimited on-station cruise time. As a psychological weapon, the SPS was capable of causing general panic.
The SPS would be able to transmit power to remote military operations anywhere needed on earth. The manned platform of the SPS would provide surveillance and early warning capability, and ELF linkage to submarines. It would also provide the capability of jamming enemy communications. The potential for jamming and creating communications is significant. The SPS was also capable of causing physical changes in the ionosphere.
President Carter approved the SPS Project and gave it a go-ahead, in spite of the reservation which many reviewers, myself included, expressed. Fortunately, it was so expensive, exceeding the entire Department of Energy budget, that funding was denied by the Congress. I approached the United Nations Committee on Disarmament on this project, but was told that as long as the program was called Solar Energy by the United States, it could not be considered a weapons project. The same project resurfaced in the US under President Reagan, moved to the much larger budget of the Department of Defense, and called Star Wars. Since this is more recent history, I will not discuss the debate which raged over this phase of the plan.
By 1978, it was apparent to the US Military that communications in a nuclear hostile environment would not be possible using traditional methods of radio and television technology (Jane’s Military Communications 1978). By 1982, GTE Sylvania (Needham Heights, Massachusetts), had developed a command control electronic sub-system for the US Air Force’s Ground Launch Cruise Missiles (GLCM) that would enable military commanders to monitor and control the missile prior to launch both in hostile and non-hostile environments. The system contains six radio subsystems, created with visible light using a dark beam (not visible), resistant to the disruptions experienced by radio and television. Dark beams contribute to the formation of energetic plasma in the atmosphere. This plasma can become visible as smog or fog. Some has a different charge than the sun’s energy, and accumulates in places where the sun’s energy is absent, like the polar regions in the winter. When the polar spring occurs, the sun appears and repels this plasma, contributing to holes in the ozone layer. This military system is called: Ground Wave Emergency Network (GWEN). (See The SECOM II Communication System, by Wayne Olsen, SAND 78-0391, Sandia Laboratories, Albuquerque, New Mexico, April 1978). This innovative emergency radio system was apparently never implemented in Europe, and exists only in North America.
High Frequency Active Auroral Research Program HAARP (1993)
The HAARP Program is jointly managed by the US Air Force and the US Navy, and is based in Gakona, Alaska. It is designed to “understand, simulate and control ionospheric processes that might alter the performance of communication and surveillance systems”. The HAARP system intends to beam 3.6 Gigawatts of effective radiated power of high frequency radio energy into the ionosphere in order to:
– generate extremely low frequency (ELF) waves for communicating with submerged submarines,
– conduct geophysical probes to identify and characterize natural ionospheric processes so that techniques can be developed to mitigate or control them,
-generate ionospheric lenses to focus large amounts of high frequency (HF) energy, thus providing a means of triggering ionospheric processes that potentially could be exploited for Department of Defense purposes,
-electron acceleration for infrared (IR) and other optical emissions which could be used to control radio wave propagation properties,
-generate geomagnetic field aligned ionization to control the reflection\scattering properties of radio waves,
-use oblique heating to produce effects on radio wave propagation, thus broadening the potential military applications of ionospheric enhancement technology.
Conclusions
It would be rash to assume that HAARP is an isolated experiment which would not be expanded. It is related to fifty years of intensive and increasingly destructive programs to understand and control the upper atmosphere. It would be rash not to associate HAARP with the space laboratory construction which is separately being planned by the United States. HAARP is an integral part of a long history of space research and development of a deliberate military nature.
The military implications of combining these projects are alarming. Basic to this project is control of communications, both disruption and reliability in hostile environments. The power wielded by such control is obvious. The ability of the HAARP / Spacelab/ rocket combination to deliver very large amount of energy, comparable to a nuclear bomb, anywhere on earth via laser and particle beams, are frightening. The project is likely to be “sold” to the public as a space shield against incoming weapons, or, for the more gullible, a devise for repairing the ozone layer.
The acronym is interesting isn’t it; NOLA? No LA. Can you guess where the next hit will be? I bet it’s an earthquake unfortunately one that will go off underwater…..

I think HE should be put on trial in both of the major fronts he has
Put himself in charge of in America, Civilian & Military.
He should be court-martialed for dereliction of duty as the Commander
In Chief of the National Guard. As the Supreme Head of the Homeland
Security Agency he should be charged with espionage for undermining the security of the United States in general. And, as CEO of that agency indited for criminal negligence and wanton disregard for the lives of American Citizens. As Chief Executive of the Nation in his role as president – he should be impeached & tried for malfeasance of office for failure to exercise his duties on behalf of the people which is the primary duty of the Executive Branch. Lest we forget – mass emergency management plans for the entire nation must be made in Washington first and ratified by the States not the other way around. It was the Duty of Homeland Security to make these plans since the Creation of that bureau effectively wiped out the power of every other agency that it was allowed to swallow up in this immense power takeover.

I wonder what the real reason was for the slow Federal response – because you had to be deaf, dumb & blind & actually dead not to have heard the pleas for help from Louisiana. Was it because they wanted to make the governor look bad deliberately that they made her jump through every government hoop they could devise & sign every form that the system could create and make sure she dotted the i’s & crossed the t’s before she could get any sort of assistance from the REPS in Congress and/or the Federal Government???
These state people were unprepared for disaster at this scale – none
should have been expected to cope unassisted. It wasn’t that they didn’t try to handle it – it was because the FEDS decided to wait until the last minute so THEY could send in John Wayne & rescue the Alamo.
And now they want to “Federalize” the Louisiana cleanup & recovery. A

I sincerely hope this power ploy earns them all the blackest possible marks in the history books – like Nero, who fiddled while Rome burned – Bush twiddled while New Orleans sunk! Please God, don’t let him get away with it again!!!
New Orleans is a huge part of the economic infrastructure in America; established as the State capital of Louisiana in 1722 with only 470 people. Being based at the mouth of both the Mississippi and Missouri rivers it has served as a main port (in the U.S.) for the import of oil to the Midwest, and a major hub for importing/exporting the nations goods (Corn, Soybean, ¼ natural gas, 1/5 of our oil for instance); and traveling by river barge is the cheapest way to ship. To be disillusioned to thinking that the Government was apathetic about its prize-winning port is absurd. Since the Battle of Baton Rouge in 1862, we have been quite protective and aware of its significance for our international socio-economic structure. If there is no city left around America’s largest port, no one to sell or buy within miles, we are paralyzing ( and potentially, ultimately dividing)our own country by our delay in assertive assistance.

The administration’s problems in the crisis seemed to crystallize in a dramatic appearance on the NBC program “Meet the Press” by Aaron Broussard, president of Jefferson Parish near New Orleans. Sobbing, he told of an emergency management official receiving phone calls from his mother, who, trapped in a nursing home, pleaded day after day for rescue. Assured by federal officials, the man promised her repeatedly that help was on the way.
“Every day she called him and said, “Are you coming, son? Is somebody coming?’ “Mr. Broussard said.”And he said, ‘Yeah, Mama, somebody’s coming to get you.’ Somebody’s coming to get you on Tuesday. Somebody’s coming to get you on Wednesday. Somebody’s coming to get you on Thursday. Somebody’s coming to get you on Friday. And she drowned Friday night. She drowned Friday night.”
Mr. Broussard angrily denounced the country’s leadership. “We have been abandoned by our own country,” he said. “It’s not just Katrina that caused all these deaths in New Orleans here. Bureaucracy has committed murder here in the greater New Orleans area, and bureaucracy has to stand trial before Congress now.”
Mr. Broussard was in direct contact with Micheal Brown, the Director of FEMA.
Why in Bush’s address today (September 5th) was there no mention of conservation? No mention of the economic impact to our nation. We know that our oil is running low; and how much longer do we have to stay in Iraq Mr. President? If we cannot mobilize here to assist and protect in our natural disasters, ones we know are coming, four days in advance, how can we prove to be protected from terrorism? Our susceptibility and naiveté is an embarrassment.
Bush had the capability to break from his golfing and guitaring long enough to fly over the world-famous port to assess in an Air Force One jet plane (requiring upwards of $6,029 per hour in fuel cost) but didn’t have the thoughtfulness to drop much needed survival supplies at the very least back on Tuesday?!!!!!
Both the Governor (an elected woman) and Mayor (an elected black man) were deceived and ignored in one of the welfare states.
Individuals create movement among masses. I am doing all the research I can, taking moderate doses of the television, reading the newspapers and scouring the internet. I am personally boycotting gas/oil for a week and praying for this country’s critical thinking to have some will.
Write letters, flood the government with your opinion on our relief/conservation efforts and ability to handle crisis on American soil. I as a free, voting citizen cannot allow this American Tsunami to wash away my future rights/hope of justice and equality.
