THANK GOD OUR CITIZENS WEREN’T TREATED AS THOSE IN NEW ORLEANS. IT IS A DISGRACE TO OUR COUNTRY AND OUR LEADERSHIP THAT THESE PEOPLE WENT THROUGH WHAT THEY DID AND NO GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS COULD HELP. RAPES, MURDERS,ETC. IT IS IRRESPONSIBLE OF GOVERNMENT TO LET THIS GO ON.I LOVE MY COUNTRY, BUT I AM VERY DISAPOINTED IN MY GOVERNMENT RIGHT NOW. PEOPLE IN IRAQ ARE TREATED BETTER! SHAME ON THE US. GOVERNMENT!!!!!!!.
This country needs a Ulysses S. Grant type to get into the disaster area and take charge. We need a person of action to head FEMA. Perhaps I’m simplifying the situation, but what is so difficult about getting trucks of supplies into the disaster area (with armed escorts), and then using the empty trucks to get refugees out?
Is this a matter of race and econonmics in New Orleans after all Louisiana is a Democratic state did Bush carry that state.? He certainly did not have the Black vote. Is this pay back? This has been a national disgrace. We need a hero, some one with Leadership, and foresight and dignity to give us strength and pride and hope. Our nation is changing for the worst, and few seem to notice and even fewer seem to care.
Imagine if the ghetto — black, latino, Russian or whatever — in your town suddenly had a horrendous displacement of people from their homes. Imagine the sun goes down with an already weak police presence gone completely.
This is most definitely an issue of class and poverty. Race is an important part of it, but not the root of what has been going on. You’ve got people already at the ass-end of life in America and guess what? It just got worse. How do you deal with people who have less than nothing to lose? Looters who will take potshots at incoming helicopters offering aid to the ailing.
Something big and bad has just happened and we want an enemy now. It won’t be as easy (or difficult, depending on who you believe) as 9/11. You can’t round up all hurricanes and put them in guantanimo-style… wait a sec. I just had a idea. gotta go. Will be back later when I work out the kinks.
