It’s been widely reported already that Kerouac’s original manuscript of On the Road will be published next year. But I’d like to put forth a proposal to Viking. Why not a limited facsimile edition of Kerouac’s original roll? Come on, Mr. Slovak. If you’ve got the moxie to publish another 1,000 page Vollmann volume, surely there’s some way to get the text into bookstores in roll form. I know there’s enough crazy bastards around to buy it. And besides it would be the ultimate homage to the papyrus rolls in the Alexandria Great Library.
