I think dropping out of grad school is a distinction, frankly. Grad school is for ass clowns.

I think WB is saying, in his tongue-in-cheek way, that the Times knows how to cultivate its anti-intellectual base. True –grad school, for these people, is where one is bamboozled by eggheads like Said, Galbraith, and Derrida in lieu of straight-shooters like Friedman, Bumiller, and Itzkoff.
