The Old Hag has broken her silence! And she addresses an issue that I’ve been frankly too lazy to pursue: is there not a single publicist at Viking who will send out copies of Marisha Pessl’s Special Topics in Calamity Physics? I still don’t have a copy.
[UPDATE: Perhaps concerned with their public perception on the accommodation front, Viking has contacted me and they are indeed sending me a copy of the book. Many thanks!]
I GUESS I could send you my copy. Also, a somewhat irritating but also interesting (for unexpected reasons) podcast of her interview on Michael Silverblatt’s Bookworm: http://www.kcrw.com/etc/programs/bw/bw061026marisha_pessl
She bugs me.
Wait a sec…you’re saying that Pessl was MORE irritating than Silverblatt?
No, no, no! Sorry to confuse. It is a GIVEN that he irritates, talking over the writers and barely getting to the book. This interview is chock full of “aren’t I the best author interviewer ever” moments. Rarely, though, does the writer irritate as well.
On the plus side, I did enjoy Pessl’s growing irritation with him and his obsession with her “Nabokovian” novel. I just didn’t like the mutual stroking.
They sent me a copy as soon as I asked for one.
I didn’t even have to ask for my galley.
I used the library.
Yeah, had one for ages without asking. Maybe it’s your aftershave? 😉
